Maleficent

The antagonist of *Sleeping Beauty*, the 1959 animated adaption of the 1697 fairy tale *La Belle au bois dormant* by Charles Perrault. A fairy with immense magical power and self-proclaimed "mistress of all evil", Maleficent set her story in action when, after discovering she had not been invited to the christening of the newly-born [Princess Aurora](https://anilist.co/character/29465/Aurora), cursed the princess to be fated to die by being pricked by a poisoned spinning wheel's spindle on her 16th birthday. While Aurora's fairy godmothers managed to change her prophecy to instead be eternal slumber until kissed by her true love, Maleficent proceeded to ensure the prophecy would come true by any means necessary. She expresses disdain for all, except for her pet raven Diablo.
