In the anime, he, along with Otoya, helps defend Haruka when the officials refused to let her take the entrance exam. ~!In episode four it's shown that even though he acts nonchalantly he has a lot of inner conflict. Through flashbacks it's shown that his mother was a pop idol and after her death his father destroyed all records of her, apart a sole tape Ren manages to save. Through-out the episode this is shown to have effected him deeply.!~
